We loved watching General Conference today -- especially since we could do it at home, sprawled on our couch and recliner in our jeans. Lazy, I know. But nice and easy! Folding towels during choir numbers kept me productive too. Multi-tasking!
We loved the Solemn Assembly, and especially loved sustaining Elder D. Todd Christofferson as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was our Stake President when we lived in Nashville and he's a good, good man. [well, duh, right?] I even said to Mark a few days ago that I thought it was time he became an Apostle because I have been convinced that's where he was heading from the time he became a General Authority. His comments at the press conference with his wife Kathy were bright, funny and humble. Like I said, he's a good, good man.
Tonight is the Priesthood meeting which brings back some family memories. Back when Mark would go alone [when the kids were small] he would always bring back donuts or ice cream. It varied and I"m not sure what caused the variation -- maybe proximity to the right retail outlet. Anyhow, he would always come home with a treat for the family and that was always exciting for us.
As the kids grew up, he would take the boys with him and it sort of became a girls' night for Natalie and I but they would always bring home their treat for us. Later still, the kids were grown and gone but the treat remained. Today, however, I was craving a raspberry filled donut from Krispy Kreme and I wasn't sure he wanted to make the drive from the Stake Center. So instead of waiting till after, Mark and I took a fast trip down to the Krispy Kreme store and got our donuts -- in advance.
I love what they do when you go into the store -- they give you a free hot glazed donut. How do you not buy a dozen after that? We did. Although the old man who followed us in didn't. Mark says he took his free hot glazed donut and left.
Not me.

I love all of the conference traditions. I think it's good to do special things, so our kids look forward to it, and get that it's a special occassion.
I am excited for our new apostle. That is so neat that he was your stake president.
Conference is a great time of year very uplifting. What a great tradition.
My sis-in-law does the doughnut and run thing, I think it's a touch tacky. Besides if your gonna go to KK you need more than one doughnut!
oh man, i'm jealous! i could really go for some doughnuts right now!
Mark taught Chris well. He still carries on the tradition. Tonight he brought home flowers and gelato! I think I love Priesthood Session - sigh!
Mmm...conference and Krispy Kreme. Cool.
We had Krispy Kreme yesterday, too! We LOVE Krispy Kreme...sometimes go there for family night. My kids think it is the greatest thing ever to get those free hot doughnuts handed to them. Actually, I think it's the greatest thing ever, too!
That is so cool Christensen was your stake president! I think it's wonderful when you know one of these men more personally. Eyering was Ryan's parents bishop when they met and married, and they just have a special place for him in their hearts.
Yay for Conference!! And yay for having a little break from primary ;) Although I'll be happy to get back...
What a fun General Conference tradition! I remember having my first Krispy Kreme doughnut in seminary when you were my teacher. Matt Johnson brought them from Utah. Do you remember that?
"Not me" that was hilarious Jan:)
How awesome that Elder Christofferson(sp?) was your Stake Pres!
And hooray for conference traditions. I need to have Joey read about yours...:) Sounds good to me!
Krispy Kreme sounds so good! I love conference traditions--we always make dutch baby pancakes of the morning of Sunday session.
Love conference! Love Krispy Kreme donuts! Love that Elder Christofferson was your stake pres! Cool!!!
We always make crepes on conference sunday morning! YUM!
um, how did I NOT know about KK and the free donut thing? Those people are SMART:)
missed your blog Jan! I think laundry folding is the universal conference anti-sleep remedy:)
When we lived in California my husband and boys would always go to In and Out afterwards.
Oh, KKD. Yum yum yum, it is hard to find a good donut here.
I love conference traditions. We all go out to eat as a family up by the Stake Center then we split ways, Forrest goes to the PH session and we go to Cold Stone and have a little treat! The kids love it and so do I :)
Mmm...krispy kreme. Gotta love it! How fun that you and Natalie would have a girl's night growing up.
Krispy Kreme with conference...sounds good to me!
Can I tell you how good this donut looks? I think I may have to get one tomorrow.
I love that Conference tradition with your husband.Nolan is definitely going to be taking this one on next time...yummm.
