Back in the day [when I was younger and dumber] I remember hearing my mom say things that I swore I would never say when I was in the exalted position of mom. You know, because those 'mom-isms' are so lame and so hard to listen to, especially by kids who really do know everything.
Right.
After lots of years of experiences and learning, I now know Mom did [and still does] know best. So when I hear her words coming out of my mouth, I get the same little reminder in my head. Time to call my Mom!!

its funny how when you grow up, the way you see things changes. and i guess thats what life is about, changing, learning and growing. thank goodness for mothers who help us do that!
Oh so true! My mom still has a couple that I am holding out to say when I'm "older" but I've already incorporated so many others!
i swore i'd never count at my kids, but i do it all the time!
Oh, me too! But, I am confident that we are in good company. Pretty sure that thousands of daughters before us have taken solemn oath to never be as boorish or priggish as our own mothers...only to humbly repent of that oath years later as we hear her own words coming out of our mouths, and finally recognize the reasoning and the wisdom.
I'm just smiling because it's SO true!
I use every. single. Mom-ism my mom used. It's amazing to hear it come out of my mouth without a second thought! And I honestly didn't think I'd sound like her as a mom. Oh, well!
So funny!!! I love it.
I have waited MANY years to be able to say those words!!! And use them, I do!!! I always say, "Because I'm the boss of you"...they don't always like that answer...but it sure is fun to say!!!
jan, i've been terrible at commenting lately, i'm sorry - i do always enjoy your thoughts though... i actually look forward to hearing myself sound like my mother... cause that'll mean i have kids & that i'll be doing it right... like my momma did ;)
Our moms are wiser than we would like to admit as kids. I have caught myself using my mom-isms and laugh. My kids are now the ones rolling their eyes. The cycle continues!
I can't believe how much I sound like my mom. More and more everyday!
