A New Year

Yesterday was our first ward meeting at the truly [most horrible] awful time of 2 - 5 p.m. Can I just say how much I was dreading dealing with tired, restless children from 3-5? Especially when that formula includes a brand-new group of Sunbeams, some barely 3 years old? I had nightmares, I can tell you.

But I was pleasantly surprised. I think having dealt with the 'Primary new year' syndrome in past years helped a lot. We knew what we had to do and have found the best ways to deal with things [at least we know what not to do!] from past experience.

And the kids were great. We had a terrific pizza party the day before, where we met most of our Primary teachers, learned interesting and silly facts about them and then had a pizza picnic together. We also tried to make sure the incoming Senior Primary children knew where they had to go, and we had invited the incoming Sunbeams into Jr. Singing and Sharing Time for 2 weeks in December. So they were better prepared than before, I think.

Yesterday was wonderful. With a few small exceptions, it went smoothly and the new classes were excited about their new teachers and the new dynamic that comes with a new year. I was nervous about Sharing Time as Fast Sunday is always hard and the first Sunday of a new year is complicated. But it went very well.

We have wonderful teachers and wonderful children. I'm feeling like this will be a memorable year together as we explore the blessings of "My Eternal Family."

*Love the cartoon! That's how I feel when we get new Primary teachers! Yay!!!

I'm glad it went well! It was Liam's first day in Sunbeams too. I guess it went okay. We now meet at 11. I miss 9! It's right during naps and lunchtime. Perfect. 2 sounds awful. It was also my first day in nursery. I have the youngest class (awesome! oh wait.) and we had 3 screamers that eventually went back to their parents, and 1 screamer that didn't, and a few other cryers that we eventually got calmed down. I really don't know what to do with all girls!

oh man. 2-5 could be potentially awful for primary kids! we've had that time before and for the record, I HATE IT. it's just not RIGHT to not get out of church until it's dark. NOT RIGHT!

glad that your first day was relatively smooth! hooray!

You are so awesome!!! I will have to store this idea to have an activity the saturday before so the kids know their teachers, for one day when I run the zoo!
We are at 11 right now, which is great for me,(we were actually there for sacrement) but we had a little one nearly fall out during sharing time.

It sounds like it went pretty well. We have the new Sunbeams come in to singing time for a few weeks before the change too and it does seem to help... for everyone but my son. He insisted in sitting in my lap for the first half before I finally convinced him to go back and sit with his class.

Glad it went well... we moved from 1-4 to 9-12, and I am in heaven, I must admit! :)

Awww, the 2:00 schedule--not my favorite, but I thought Primary went well Sunday, too! What a relief! We really have such sweet Primary kids.

it wasn't as bad as i expected it to be. we're just going to have to find ways to amuse ourselves in the morning, i guess.

2-5 sounds awful! I actually thought of you on Sunday as I was getting my kids to their new classes (including my brand new Sunbeam). The first Sunday of the new year is stressful for the primary presidency! Glad things went well!

It was Carter's first day as a Sunbeam and it was a minor disaster! He screamed, "This isn't my class!" through the first 15 minutes, and I had to stay with him for the entire sharing/singing time. When it was time to go to class he went without a problem and was fine the rest of the time.

Afterwards the bishop called me in his office and asked if I would be the sunbeam teacher. Could this calling be related to the way my son behaved????? He assured me that it wasn't, but a pile of 3 year-olds is the title of my worst nightmare....I must have something to learn!
