Sisters

"There is no outsider anywhere who wouldn't appreciate and even envy the tremendous advantage that sisters have, if properly utilized, against all odds." ~Susan Ripps

Oh, this is true! I have only one sister, and she is something special. We shared a room as well as our lives for our entire growing-up years. I tried to comfort her when the thunderstorms were too much for her [she'd retreat to the bottom of the bed, under the covers], and we had our own special code words to use so we could still whisper when mom thought we were being too noisy. We snuck around in the house in the dark after bedtime together, we laughed hysterically together, we hung out at the A & W together [the only hangout there was in our town at that point in time], and we talked about everything. Much of the time, I think we felt like it was the two of us against the world -- and we could do anything because we had each other. *This is not to say that I was the ideal big sister, because I wasn't. But I always loved my sister and despite the fact that we haven't even lived in the same country for many years, the bond we share has only gotten better and stronger over time.

My friend Natalie has many sisters, and right now, they are the anchor that one of them is clinging to during a rough patch in her life. I know how much that means. My daughter Natalie has always wanted a sister, and I have wished so much that it could have happened for her. I love all the males in my life dearly -- but there is just something special about a sister.

I'm so lucky to have the one I do. Not only is she my one and only, she's the best.

Being the only girl I have always wanted a sister too. I have been blessed with some amazing friends and some sister-in-laws that are more than a girl could have ever hoped for. Sisters are a blessing.

My sisters really are such a blessing to me. I also think of Stephanie Nielson (Nie Nie dialogues) and what a support and loyal commitment they are to her right now. Families in general are God's plan for us; to take care of one another and to love one another unconditionally.

I LOVE those pics of you and your sis growing up. So sweet!

I love the old pictures. My sister just posted one of us on her blog. I'll have to get her back and post an even worse one on mine! I'm a little envious of your sister relationship. Mine with my just older sister is finally good, but growing up wasn't always as much fun. Now I feel like all three of us are pretty tight, or at least like we'd totally have each other's backs no matter what.

Oh my gosh....did those photos ever take me down memory lane! I've loved having you as a sister too....even when you threatened to take me back to the orphanage!!! I'm sure I was a little pest most of the time, but we did have fun, didn't we! Wish we lived closer to each other. "Save your money....beeeeeee prepared....! Love you!

Hey, I'm one of Natalie's sisters. In fact, the one and only sister that is going through a particularly unenjoyable struggle at the moment. I really do not know what I would do without the love and support of my sisters. Sisters forever! :)

What a sweet post Jan! I love sisters - they are truly the best. I agree, I think our relationships only get stronger as time goes on, even if we do lives miles apart. I LOVE the pictures you posted, especially the one in your dresses. The polka-dots and the poof...how adorable!

I love my sisters too! It's nice to have them there to vent too but at the same time they'll tell you straight up if you are right or wrong. And although Natalie doesn't have any sisters; she sure is lucky to have a mama who is a close comparison.
